Art, Music & The Adventures Of Superseven!

I'm very lucky to be involved with the fabulous "Adventures Of Superseven" web series. I spent the bulk of my spare time last year making music for the show and very close to the end of 2013 I put it all together and released The Jimmy C's "The Adventures Of Superseven" Original Web Series Soundtrack. You can hear and buy it exclusively at Bandcamp (http://thejimmyc.bandcamp.com).

The inspiring visuals and sounds of the show worked their magic and I made some fun poster art! And here it be:

FREE MUSIC FOR ANYBODY WHO EVEN CARES A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MUSIC, and for anyone who can be bothered to click on it.

Making music free is definitely adding to the current problem of art (music/literature/illustration/etc) seemingly having absolutely no value. People don't want to pay for the hard work people put in to doing something they're good at (and often enjoy doing). Art is an abstract or intangible product. Buy a donut and you get a donut. Buy an album and what do you get? Something to listen to a few times and hope you still like it (or own it) in a couple of years? If it's a digital download it's not even something you can hold in your hands. It exists only as a small amount of memory allocation on a drive somewhere. Or worse, a scratched old CD-R on the floor of your car.

It takes a lot of effort to write an article or design a poster or write and record a song. Hard work. Like the hard work people get paid to do in a 9-5 job. I love making music. I love the feeling I get when I copy a finished wav file to a disc or flash drive and take it somewhere to listen to it. But making music is hard work - even if it is done by an "artist".

Boognish Be Praised!

I like Ween. When I'm lost for words trying to describe my sound after somebody asks me the inevitable question, I often defer to "A bit like Ween". It's a gross misrepresentation but to anyone who likes and knows Ween it speaks volumes. Ween don't fit into a pigeon-holed genre and neither do I (I think). Ween make (sadly, made) the music they wanted to make and didn't compromise. Truly admirable.

So why am I prattling on about Ween? I heard a rumor there was a Ween tribute album in the making and I want to be involved. I set out to record two of my favourite Ween songs (that i thought I hopefully won't ruin) and here they are!

The Jimmy C - Photographer

DIY iPhone video for Photographer from my "Orbital Debris" album. Shot, edited and output from my phone.

Welcome To Casa De Kensington: Behind The Sounds Of The Jimmy C.

I love recording. I've always paid close attention to the recording process when the bands I've played with were in a real studio - and since moving to Melbourne in 1996 I've been lucky enough to have recorded in many of Melbourne's finest. At home I've always tinkered with recording but for me it's more about delivering a finished sounding song rather than achieving a pure and technically "correct" sound.

Orbital Debris OUT NOW!

Hi Folks, my new album Orbital Debris is now available digitally via Bandcamp. I'm hoping to press some CDs later in the year once I've made sure any record labels don't want to do it for me.
